Colonial Tramcar Restaurant

The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant is the first travelling tram restaurant in the world, making for a unique and memorable experience.

Step aboard a Melbourne tram for a dining experience like no other. Glide along the scenic streets of Melbourne while enjoying a seasonally-selected menu, fine Australian wine, and a fully-stocked bar.

Tramcars are air conditioned and heated, and there is a smart casual dress code. Bookings are essential.

Departure location

The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant departs from, and returns to, stop #125 on Normanby Road, South Melbourne (near the corner of Clarendon Street, diagonally across from Crown Casino and adjacent to the Melbourne Exhibition Centre). View map


Cuisine is Modern Australian, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available.

Opening hours

  • Lunch: 1pm to 3pm
  • Early dinner: 5.45pm to 7.15pm
  • Late dinner: 8.35pm to 11.30pm

Also available for private bookings, including breakfast, luncheon, morning tea and high tea.

Price range

  • Luncheon, 4 courses: $85
  • Early dinner, 3 courses: $80
  • Late dinner (Sun - Thu), 5 courses: $121
  • Late dinner (Fri - Sat), 5 courses: $137.50

Prices include beverages from a fully stocked bar.


The fleet of three Tramcar Restaurants, each with 36 seats, has a total capacity of 108 passengers. Each tramcar has two sections of 24 and 12 seats. Each section contains booths accommodating 2 or 4 people.


Due to sizing restrictions, wheelchairs and walking frames cannot be accommodated on the tram, but secure storage can be provided.
