Cooks' cottage

 

Teachers are required to choose a minimum of two activities from the list of modules below. Each of the four available modules has been tailored for primary students. 

 

Simply select the modules which best support your learning objectives. Each module runs for 15 minutes and is coordinated by a trained guide.

 Module one: Captain Cook’s Treasure Chest

Module One: Captain Cook’s Treasure ChestThis module showcases artefacts connected to Captain Cook and stimulates discussion on the origin and use of each artefact. This activity encourages enquiry based learning opportunities for all students and concludes with an interesting account of Captain Cook's first voyage to Australia using an interactive map.

 Module two: Travel back in time

Module Two: Travel back in time Students are each allocated a character tag and given time to explore Cooks’ Cottage and garden to find answers related to their character. The activity concludes with students revealing their answers and a race with an eighteenth century twist.

 Module three: Edible or poisonous?

Module Three: Edible or poisonous?This module takes students into our cottage garden filled with herbs and vegetables. Using an interactive board students are asked to identify weird and wonderful recipes, remedies and concoctions that people used in the eighteenth century.

 Module four: Let’s play dress up

Module Four: Let’s play dress upIn this module, students are presented with two undressed mannequins. Students are divided into two groups and asked to sort through trunks of assorted clothes and dress both mannequins eighteenth century style. This fun activity will enhance students’ knowledge about eighteenth century fashion and lifestyle
