Victoria’s state opera company has developed a distinctive artistic program which commissions brand new work annually with accessible ticket prices.
The 2010 season is an extraordinary mix of compelling productions with four full operatic works, two concerts and more. Each opera in the season deals with an aspect of woman - the woman betrayed, adored, scorned, the woman as schemer, as conqueror, the woman disconsolate and the woman as winner.
In 2010, Victorian Opera introduces ballet star Steven Heathcote as the director of Handel's Julius Caesar, again joins forces with Malthouse Theatre in The Threepenny Opera, and performs two brand new Australian commissions, The Parrot Factory (second image) and The Cockatoos.
