above. aims to produce classic, wearable shapes that have the foundations of a well cut pattern. The collections always centre around the basic wardrobe (shirt, shift dress, the suit, trench coat) but are re-imagined from a structural point of view. Our clothing should never overshadow the person wearing it, rather it should integrate into their lives and wardrobes seamlessly.
The label has shifted focus in recent months to focus on a trunk show style of business, which sees smaller, more limited pieces being produced completely in house, directly for a customer. It has meant that above. is now able to be completely self-sufficient from samples to finished product. The studio has become a salon showroom, which allows a client to come and interact with the clothes and the designer, allowing the curtain to be pulled back on what goes in to making their investments.
The new focus comes off the back of critical acclaim with above. being chosen as finalists in the 2012 National Designer Award, as well as representatives of 'The New Antipodeans' exhibition during London Fashion Week.
