 Alma Doepel Ship Restoration Project

Description

Join Tall Ship lovers from all over Victoria to restore the Alma Doepel to her former glory. Built in 1903 the Alma Doepel is Australia’s last coastal trading sailing vessel afloat. Her working life ended in 1975, having survived the rigours of the Australian coastal trade and every danger known to shipping. With a vision of seeing the Alma sailing regularly from Docklands, dedicated volunteers are working apace both in the refit shed and on the ship herself. Join the Alma Doepel Supporters Group each Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Docklands, where they will be pleased and proud to show you the latest stages of this amazing restoration. Her restoration is reaching an exciting milestone as she is nearing readiness to be lifted from the water so that shipwrights can work on her hull. Her significance and the maritime history she represents, is recognised by her heritage listing by the National Trust (Victoria).
