The night that was...
New Year’s Eve in the City 2009 went off with spectacular fireworks that were seen and heard across the whole city!
Family Festival at Yarra Park
Our city’s new Family Festival at Yarra Park was a big success. Thousands of Melbourne families flocked to the tree-lined surrounds of the MCG to see Marcia Hines hit those soulful notes and Ross Wilson rocking out in style.
Ross Wilson really got the crowd going with his classic hit Eagle Rock before the countdown to a spectacular fireworks display. And we’d better not forget the Casio Brothers featuring Demi Sorono. Wow, that girl can really dance.
The 9.15pm family fireworks arched above the MCG, with a beautiful skyline for a background. Check out the photos.
Thanks to Cricket Victoria and the Victorian Bushrangers for hosting so many fun kids’ activities, and to the National Sports Museum who opened late, giving visitors an opportunity to check out Australia’s sporting history.
Midnight rooftop fireworks spectacular
The midnight rooftop fireworks spectacular sent shivers through the city! Amazing colours, patterns and a great soundtrack marked the arrival of 2010. Sparks flew from rooftops in all directions, shooting high into the sky, travelling from the top of the city all the way to Docklands.
City entertainment sites
Many happy revellers got great views of the midnight fireworks from Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens, along with many hotels, restaurants and bars, private apartments, boats and Melbourne city streets.
Live bands and DJs performed on stage at Alexandra Gardens and Birrarung Marr entertaining many. The live entertainment at Federation Square and Waterfront City was also welcomed by happy Melburnians.
All city entertainment venues rocked along to great music, dining and roving entertainment.
We hope you enjoyed your New Year’s Eve celebrations.
