Melbourne Visitor Shuttle

Climb aboard the Melbourne Visitor Shuttle and discover a city filled with gorgeous gardens, stunning architecture and dazzling artworks – as well as an array of galleries, theatres, shops and restaurants.

The Melbourne Visitor Shuttle is a great way to explore inner city Melbourne. Ride in comfort while listening to stories about the city's colourful past and current quirks.

Ticket information

Cost: $5 all day, children under 10 are free.

How to purchase: tickets are available from Best of Souvenirs in the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square or from ticket machines at each stop. Please note, ticket machines only accept credit cards or coins. View ticket conditions.

Getting around

The shuttle operates daily *(except on the days noted below), departing every 30 minutes from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The full trip takes approximately 90 minutes and includes on-board commentary.

*The Melbourne Visitor Shuttle service is cancelled on the following days in 2015:

  • ANZAC Day – 25 April 2015
  • Run Melbourne – 26 July 2015
  • Grand Final Parade – 2 October 2015
  • Melbourne Marathon – 18 October 2015
  • Melbourne Cup Parade – 2 November 2015
  • Christmas Day – 25 December 2015

Please note:

  • The Visitor Shuttle is a popular service and is likely to run at full capacity in peak periods
  • Stop 3 Sports precinct is not in service on MCG event days. A temporary stop on Lansdowne Street operates on these days.

Melbourne Visitor Shuttle route

There are 13 stops where you can hop on and hop off. Each point of interest is only a short walk or tram ride away. Download the shuttle route brochure (PDF 3.2MB) or pick up a copy at the Melbourne Visitor Centre

From the Melbourne Visitor Centre and the Melbourne Visitor Booth, the closest stop to board the Melbourne Visitor Shuttle is Stop 2 – Federation Square.

Stop 1 Arts precinct
Step off here for plays, pictures and performances.

Stop 2 Federation Square
Step off here for visitor services, culture and art.

  • Fitzroy Gardens, Cooks' Cottage, Fairies Tree, Model Tudor Village and historic Conservatory.  

* Note that this stop is not in service on MCG event days. A temporary stop on Lansdowne Street (next to Fitzroy Gardens), operates on all event days listed in the table below.

There are no ticketing facilities at the temporary stop. Tickets are available at the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square or at all regular shuttle stop locations.

Unless any road closures occur, the shuttle route and service times should not be affected.

23 to 29 May: stop 12 closed

From Saturday 23 May till Friday 29 May stop 12 (Southbank and Yarra River) will be closed. From stop 11, the shuttle will: detour west along Flinders Street, south into Spencer Street/Clarendon Street, then northeast into Whiteman Street to resume normal route and proceed to stop 13.

Sun 24 May: stop 3 closed

For stop 3, the alternate stop on Lansdowne Street will be used.

From stop 2 the shuttle will: turn left into Russell Street, right into Collins Street into MaCarthur Street, right into St. Andrews Place, right into Lansdowne Street and then resumes the normal route.
