Moomba Festival is located in the heart of Melbourne, spanning Birrarung Marr, Alexandra Gardens and the Yarra River between Princes Bridge and Swan Street Bridge.

With over one million people visiting Moomba across the Labour Day long weekend, there are some important details that will help to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience.

Men's slalom competitor Andy Mapple from Florida has won the Moomba Masters slalom title 11 times.

Getting to the festival

Melbourne’s network of trains, trams and buses makes it easy to get to and from the event. Visit the PTV website or call 1800 800 007 for up-to-date information on Melbourne’s public transport.

If you’re using public transport on Labour Day (Monday 9 March) take note that the public holiday timetable will apply. Road closures surrounding the festival may also affect public transport services on Monday and during the evenings across the weekend. Refer to the road closures table below.

Pets

Our festival site will be packed full of people all weekend, so please leave your pets at home. Assistive animals are permitted.

Smoking

Patrons are asked to keep all entertainment and food areas smoke free.

Handy tips

We are excited to offer you a jam-packed schedule of free events and activities across the weekend. The only things you will need money for are carnival rides and food, and your transport to and from the festival – the rest is on us.

Keep it clean

Just one piece of rubbish can make a difference to our environment, rivers and waterways. Please dispose of your rubbish thoughtfully and look for recycling bins for your bottles and recyclables.

Be sun smart

Temperatures can rise on the Moomba site, so make sure you remember to be sun smart. We have sunscreen and water available for your convenience. Check the map for locations.

Accessibility

The Moomba Festival site and facilities are accessible via wheelchair. All mobility equipment hire services are managed by Travellers Aid, who have equipment available for hire at both Flinders Street and Southern Cross Stations. Call 03 9610 2030 or visit Travellers Aid to make a booking at least 24 hours in advance.
